462.69 hectares are reforested in Galicia to recover damaged forests
The “green” recovery of one of the areas most affected by forest fires in recent years reaches the province of Pontevedra.
The Communities of Montes: Tenorio, Borela, A Chamadoira, Cobas, Quireza, Rebordelo,Tomonde, Loureiro, Vilar and Casal will be reforested by CO2 Revolution, a pioneer company in the use of new technologies applied to forestry engineering.
This project, in which the City Council of Cercedo-Cotobade has participated as a mediator, is a milestone for the region, since the most appropriate and efficient planting system will be chosen to recover devastated areas and plots without trees.
The local initiative thus finds a novel and profitable formula for the forestry, social and economic recovery of the area, which will serve as a springboard in the strategy of “true ecological transition” towards a model of sustainable development in the rural environment.
The Communities: Tenorio, Borela, A Chamadoira, Cobas, Quireza, Rebordelo, Tomonde, Loureiro, Vilar and Casal and CO2 Revolution, a company specialized in the application of artificial intelligence to forestry engineering, signed a collaboration agreement for the reforestation of 462.69 hectares for next autumn. The species to be afforested will be: Pinus pinaster, Pinus radiata, Castanea hibrida, Prunus aviam, Quercus robur and Betula alba species, among others.
This project, in which the City Council of Cercedo-Cotobade has participated as mediator, involves the forest recovery of one of the areas most affected by forest fires in recent years and of plots without trees.
CO2 Revolution, the company chosen to carry out the activity, is a world pioneer in the use of new technologies to reforest large areas more efficiently and in very short times. Specifically, for this action, the most appropriate and efficient planting system will be chosen for the project, which allows repopulating with native species an area devastated by fire or affected by desertification up to 100 times faster than by traditional means.
To do this, CO2 Revolution uses big data, intelligent seeds and drones, embedded in a biodegradable capsule that protects them, ensuring maximum effectiveness in the planting process. These are pre-germinated seeds that also have super components to enhance their germination and prevent the growth of weeds. The plantations are carried out with drones that have tanks that can hold up to 2,500 seeds, launching them from the air to cover larger areas of land, which also allows them to be planted in areas that are difficult to access.
The reforestation, which will begin in the fall of this year, will also involve hiring local people. What will be one of the most important environmental projects in the region also becomes a more ambitious program of local, social and economic development for the area. According to Juan Carlos Sesma, CEO of CO2 Revolution, investing in trees means investing in the future in every sense. And the Cercedo-Cotobade City Council is an institutional example of a true ecological transition towards a sustainable development model”. The local initiative thus finds a novel and profitable formula for the forestry, social and economic recovery of the area.
CO2 Revolution has clients such as LG, Banco Santander, Grupo Siro, Leroy Merlin, Sprigfield, Mapfre, etc., companies with great environmental awareness and commitment to continue growing in an ambitious project in favor of the recovery of Spanish forests. The momentum of this strategy, now supported by the City Council of Cercedo-Cotobade, would allow Spain to initiate a real ecological transition to a model of sustainable development in the countryside, which will contribute to the demographic challenge of combating depopulation and abandonment of activity in rural areas.
Galicia, and specifically Pontevedra, joins other Spanish areas also reforested by this company, such as Extremadura, Murcia, Palencia, Guadalajara, Burgos and Palencia.
