PROJECT

La Burgalesa

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Creation of a forest ecosystem capable of absorbing CO2, thus combating global warming, protecting the soil by creating sustainable forest cover, and restoring the biodiversity of the area and wildlife habitats.

La Burgalesa reforestation project spans 23.01 hectares within the municipalities of Caleruega, Tubilla del Lago and Villalbilla de Gumiel, located in the province of Burgos. This initiative has been designed to establish a forest cover in an area previously devoid of tree vegetation and significantly degraded by intense erosive processes. The establishment of this forest mass represents a significant environmental challenge, with the aim of regenerating the local ecosystem and ensuring its long-term sustainability.

The main objective of La Burgalesa is to promote environmental restoration and the protection of natural resources. The new forest mass will play a fundamental role in the regulation of water resources, helping to minimise the risks of erosion and providing essential nutrients to the soil. In addition, this vegetation will improve soil quality and the water cycle, contributing to a more balanced and resilient environment.

The species selected for reforestation in La Burgalesa are typical of the Mediterranean forests present in Burgos. They include Pinus pinea, Pinus halepensis, Quercus ilex and Juniperus thurifera, among others. These species have been chosen for their adaptability to the local climate and soil conditions, which guarantees their long-term survival and growth. In addition, the diversity of species ensures the creation of a mixed forest that can better resist climatic variations and pests, strengthening the ecosystem as a whole.
