Este pasado sábado 10 de febrero, la Academia de Cine organizó en Valladolid la 38ª edición de los Premios Goya 2024. This event included a series of measures that for the second consecutive year mark a significant step towards holding events that are more respectful of the environment.
Below, we present some of the sustainable ideas that featured in the ceremony:
Recycled and recyclable materials
The Academy has opted for the 3R rule – reduce, reuse and recycle – to reduce the demand for natural resources and reduce the generation of waste. An example of this has been the creation of the photocall and the red carpet through the use of recycled and recyclable materials, thus promoting a more sustainable cycle.
In addition, the winners of the Goya 2024 have received statuettes made from recycled bronze. This initiative not only gives additional symbolic value to the awards, but also contributes to the reduction of the carbon footprint associated with the production of new materials.
Sustainable transport
The Academy encouraged the use of the train as the preferred means of transportation over airplanes and cars, whenever feasible. In addition, the official vehicle that took guests to the red carpet was 100% electric, which demonstrates a commitment to reducing polluting emissions.
Energy efficiency
Siguiendo con este compromiso sostenible, los hoteles escogidos para alojar a los invitados a la gala tenían certificación LEED. An ecological alternative to promote energy savings and reduce environmental impact.
Proximity suppliers and waste separation
Priority has been given to local suppliers, thereby reducing the carbon footprint associated with the transportation of goods. In addition, labeled recycling points have been implemented to encourage the separation of waste and facilitate its correct environmental management.
Sustainable water sources
Thanks to the collaboration with Aquaservice, water fountains have been installed for all attendees, eliminating the need for disposable plastic bottles and thus reducing the environmental impact associated with the consumption of bottled water.
Measurement and compensation of the carbon footprint
They have calculated their footprint by analyzing key areas such as energy, mobility, catering, materials, waste, accommodation and water. This measurement makes it possible to identify opportunities for improvement and offset emissions generated through reforestation projects, thus contributing to the mitigation of climate change.
In conclusion, the 2024 Goya Awards have shown that it is possible to combine the glamor and elegance of an event of this category with sustainable and environmentally friendly practices. These initiatives not only reflect the Academy’s commitment to sustainability, but also inspire other events and organizations to follow suit in the pursuit of a greener, more sustainable future for all.
