PROJECT

Villanueva de Abajo A

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Creation of a forest ecosystem capable of absorbing CO from the atmosphere, mitigating the effects of climate change, and providing a habitat for biodiversity.

Villanueva de Abajo A Reforestation Project spans 6.07 hectares within the municipality of Congosto de Valdavia, located in the province of Palencia (Castilla y León). Its primary objective is to ecologically restore the area, helping to mitigate the impacts of climate change by capturing CO2 and storing carbon. This initiative aligns with global efforts to reduce greenhouse gases and combat the long-term effects of climate change.

The forest mass being established consists of a diverse mix of native hardwood species. This selection is designed not only to enrich the local biodiversity but also to offer greater resilience against extreme natural phenomena and environmental changes. The variety of species ensures the creation of a robust and adaptable ecosystem, better equipped to withstand the challenges posed by climate change and other environmental pressures. This diversity also contributes to the long-term stability and health of the forest, making it a valuable natural resource for future generations.

Beyond its environmental benefits, the new forest stand will play a crucial role in protecting the soil and regulating water resources. The trees will help minimize erosion, prevent land degradation, and improve soil fertility by providing essential nutrients. These improvements promote a healthier, more sustainable environment, which in turn supports a balanced and thriving ecosystem. Additionally, the forest will provide habitat, shelter, and food for local wildlife, contributing to the preservation of biodiversity and enhancing the ecological balance in the area.

Villanueva de Abajo A Project also brings important social benefits to the local community. It supports rural development through the creation of jobs in forest management and conservation. Moreover, the project encourages outdoor leisure activities, offering residents and visitors opportunities for recreation, while fostering a deeper connection with nature. This combination of environmental and social benefits makes the project a model for sustainable development.
