PROJECT

Loureiro

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Recovery of a degraded forest mass following a fire, aimed at reestablishing native vegetation, restoring the functionality of both the soil and the canopy, and possessing the ability to absorb CO from the atmosphere, thereby mitigating the effects of climate change.

Forest repopulation project of 10.57 hectares located in the Community of Montes Vecinales en Mano Común de Loureiro in the municipality of Cerdedo-Cotobade, Pontevedra (Galicia).

The main objective of this repopulation project is the ecological restoration of a burned area that has not been able to recover on its own, thereby helping to mitigate the effects of climate change by creating a sustainable and biodiverse ecosystem in the future. The future forest mass will play a crucial role in protecting the soil and regulating water resources, minimizing the risk of erosion and enriching the soil with nutrients.

The species used in the repopulation are typical of the Atlantic forests found in Galicia: Pinus pinaster subsp atlantica, Quercus robur y Castanea sativa.

  • Project certified by MITECO.
  • Code: 2022-b114.
  • Forest repopulation.
