CO2 Revolution signs a partnership with Valle del Cauca

The Government of Valle del Cauca and CO2 Revolution join forces to recover degraded ecosystems through technology and innovation.

has taken an important step towards the restoration and protection of its strategic ecosystems by signing an agreement with the Spanish company CO2 Revolution. The Governor of the department, Dilian Francisca Toro Torres, led the signing of this alliance, which seeks to restore degraded environments, both soil and watersheds and marine.

‘The environmental wealth of our department is invaluable, and with this alliance we will work on the protection and recovery of 5 of the 8 ecosystems we have, using technology and innovation to accelerate these processes,’ said the Governor. She also stressed that this initiative is key to maintaining Valle del Cauca as a leader in environmental sustainability in Colombia, as reflected in the country’s competitiveness index. This agreement is framed within the Development Plan ‘Leadership that Transforms’, and is a fundamental pillar in the decarbonisation route that has been outlined for the department.

Juan Carlos Sesma, Founder and CEO of CO2 Revolution, explained the details of the strategy they will implement for the regeneration of ecosystems. ‘We will work on regeneration through a seed bank and the creation of a biotechnology laboratory to improve seeds and seedlings. We will also investigate the use of fungi and bacteria to facilitate the recovery of degraded lands, such as those affected by illegal mining. Another of our objectives is to establish a nursery that will allow us to produce a large number of plants quickly and cheaply, as well as a training centre to train and certify local communities, giving them access to better job opportunities’.

Francia Elena Obando, Secretary of Environment and Sustainable Development of the Valle del Cauca, explained that technical roundtables will be created to develop projects that unite technical and financial efforts for the environmental recovery of the department. ‘We have been working with CO2 Revolution for four months now, and at the next COP16 we will present our initiatives at the international level. We are determined to develop this project in the shortest possible time with the collaboration of the Ministry of Agriculture,’ she explained.

For her part, the Governor concluded by highlighting that the implementation of advanced technology, such as the use of drones for reforestation in watersheds, will be fundamental to protect biodiversity and promote regenerative agriculture and agroecology in Valle del Cauca. A key initiative to mitigate the effects of climate change.
