PROJECT

Rebordelo B

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

This reforestation project aims to ecologically restore a mass devastated by fire that has not been able to recover without human intervention. The species used is Salix atrocinerea, native and adapted to the climatic conditions of this region.

Rebordelo B Reforestation Project covers 6.74 hectares located in the Community of Montes Vecinales en Mano Común de Rebordelo, within Cerdedo‐Cotobade, located in the municipality of Pontevedra (Galicia). This project focuses on the ecological restoration of a forest mass devastated by fire, which has not been able to recover without human intervention.

The Rebordelo B Project’s main objective is to provide a wide variety of ecosystem services to the affected area. These services include regulating the water cycle, protecting the soil, capturing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and establishing numerous plant and animal species. These actions not only contribute to the restoration of the local ecosystem, but also help mitigate the effects of climate change at a regional level.

The main species used in the reforestation is Salix atrocinerea, a native species adapted to the climatic conditions of this region. The choice of this species ensures the adaptation and success of the reforestation, due to its resistance and capacity to thrive in the Galician climate. In addition, its ability to improve soil structure and facilitate water infiltration contributes significantly to the regulation of the hydrological cycle and protection of the soil against erosion.

The intervention in Rebordelo B not only addresses ecological recovery, but also has a positive impact on the biodiversity of the area. By establishing a diverse forest stand, a favourable habitat is created for a variety of plant and animal species, thus promoting biodiversity and ecosystem resilience. This holistic approach ensures that the project not only restores the landscape, but also promotes a healthy and sustainable ecosystem in the long term.
