Creating Green Employment Opportunities
The forestry sector is a major employer worldwide. Approximately 33 million people work in this field, representing 1% of global employment. So every tree we plant not only means another step towards climate change mitigation, but also the creation of new employment opportunities. Our reforestation projects not only require the participation of forestry and environmental conservation experts, but also local workers who participate in forest planting, maintenance and monitoring activities. This green job creation provides an economic lifeline for local communities, as well as a greater commitment to environmental protection.
Empowering through Employment
Despite the fundamental role they play, women represent less than 25% of the workforce in the forestry sector. At CO2 Revolution we want to change this reality while raising awareness about the difficulties they face in their professional career in a work environment dominated by men.
In many of our projects, women play a key role in reforestation and conservation activities, from leading planting teams to participating in the management of forest nurseries. However, in some cultural and geographic contexts, women may face discrimination or stigmatization at work. This reality makes it difficult for them to participate fully and equitably in the sector. Additionally, work-life balance can be especially challenging in an environment where the demands of field work and projects can be intense and subject to varying environmental conditions.
Addressing these challenges requires a continued commitment to gender equality, inclusive policies and practices, as well as support programs that support women’s professional and personal development.
Social and Economic Impact
Women’s economic empowerment not only has individual benefits, but also has a positive impact on the entire community.
According to a study carried out by The Global FoodBanking Network, when women have access to employment and economic resources, they reinvest 90% in their family and community (education, health and nutrition) compared to 30-40% for men. This contributes to more equitable and sustainable community development. Furthermore, by strengthening women’s participation in environmental conservation, we are ensuring a more inclusive and effective approach to addressing global environmental challenges.
