PROJECT

San Isidro

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

This reforestation project guarantees sustainable wood production and provides environmental benefits that counteract climate change. The species used was Pinus radiata, fast growing and adapted to the region.

The San Isidro project focuses on the reforestation of 19.67 hectares located in the Community of Montes Vecinales en Mano Común de San Isidro, in the Municipality of Campo Lameiro, Pontevedra (Galicia). This initiative is designed not only to ensure the sustainable production of wood to meet growing industrial demand, but also to provide significant environmental benefits by restoring degraded areas and actively contributing to the mitigation of climate change. Additionally, the project generates key socioeconomic benefits for the local community, fostering employment and promoting sustainable economic development in the region.

To carry out this project, a strategic choice of species has been made. Pinus radiata has been selected as the main species due to its rapid growth and adaptation to the climatic conditions of Galicia. This conifer quickly accumulates organic matter and nutrients in the soil, improving its fertility and promoting ecosystem health. This strategy not only promotes local biodiversity, but also strengthens the ecosystem’s resilience to future environmental challenges.

Therefore, the San Isidro project represents a comprehensive commitment to environmental sustainability and local economic development in Pontevedra. By combining environmental, social and economic benefits, it is established as an exemplary model of responsible and future-oriented forest management in Galicia.
