PROJECT

Rebordelo A

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

This repopulation project will provide a wide variety of ecosystem services to the area such as the supply of raw materials and the regulation of the water cycle. The species used in this repopulation project were Pinus pinaster subsp atlantica, Pinus radiata, Salix spp.

Rebordelo A Reforestation Project covers 34.61 hectares located in the Community of Montes Vecinales en Mano Común de Rebordelo, in the municipality of Cerdedo-Cotobade, located in the municipality of Pontevedra (Galicia). This project focuses on the ecological restoration of a forest mass devastated by fire, which has not been able to recover without human intervention.

The Rebordelo A reforestation project is an initiative aimed at revitalising and enriching the biodiversity of the area. This action not only benefits the environment, but also provides a wide range of essential ecosystem services. These benefits include the provision of raw materials, regulation of the water cycle, soil protection and the removal of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.

Among the species chosen for this reforestation, Pinus pinaster subsp. atlantica, Pinus radiata, and Salix spp. have been selected, complemented by a band of perimeter hardwoods. The latter has a strategic purpose: it acts as a natural firebreak, breaking the horizontal continuity and providing an effective defence against possible forest fires. The project does not only focus on flora. Repopulation creates a suitable environment for the establishment of numerous animal species, fostering a balanced and healthy ecosystem. This holistic approach ensures the creation of diverse habitats that are essential for biodiversity.
