The Carballedo I afforestation project covers 85.41 hectares located in the Community of Montes Vecinales en Mano Com\u00fan de Carballedo, in the municipality of Cerdedo-Cotobade<\/a>, province of Pontevedra (Galicia). This initiative not only focuses on sustainable timber production to meet industry demand, but also generates a positive socio-economic impact for the local community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Carballedo I aims to provide significant environmental benefits that help mitigate the effects of climate change. By establishing a sustainable tree stand in areas where natural regeneration has failed to consolidate, the project stabilises soils and encourages the development and colonisation of indigenous plants and animals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The species planted include fast-growing conifers and native hardwoods, chosen to ensure the sustainability and diversity of the ecosystem, protect against fire and stabilise soils, promoting the development of local flora and fauna. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The mix of species selected for reforestation is intended to disrupt the horizontal continuity of the canopy, which is a critical factor in preventing the spread of fires in many plantations. By incorporating this diversity, the project not only reduces fire risks but also fosters a more resilient and biodiverse ecosystem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Serving as a model for sustainable practices, this project demonstrates how forestry can be seamlessly integrated into both natural resource management and community development.
