The Vilar Reforestation Project covers 26.18 hectares located in the Community of Montes Vecinales en Mano Com\u00fan de Vilar, within the municipality of Cerdedo Cotobade<\/a>, Pontevedra, Galicia. The main objective of this project is to improve ecosystem services in the area, providing multiple environmental and social benefits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

By restoring this land, the project aims to offer essential ecosystem services such as raw material provision, water cycle regulation, soil protection, and carbon dioxide removal from the atmosphere. Additionally, the afforestation efforts will boost local biodiversity, enriching both plant and animal life while also providing new recreational opportunities for the surrounding community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The main species used in the reforestation project in Vilar is Pinus radiata. This fast-growing conifer has been selected for its ability to capture carbon and adapt to local conditions. In addition, a perimeter band of native hardwoods has been introduced. This perimeter band plays a crucial role as a natural firebreak, breaking the horizontal continuity of the forest and providing an effective defence against forest fires.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
